My Journey with Tea — The Story Behind Tekoteas

Tea has always been a passion of mine. Growing up, my mother would prepare tea every morning for our family of five — a quiet ritual that brought warmth and connection to our days. I’ve continued this tradition with my own children, keeping the spirit of those shared moments alive.

In 2015, during my first visit to Bandung, I discovered the beauty of Indonesian tea plantations. Standing among those lush gardens, the idea to share this love with the world took root. Four years later, in 2019, I founded Tekoteas with the goal of introducing the richness of Indonesian tea to international markets.

To make our blends unique and meaningful, I infused them with local flowers, herbs, and spices — tailored to suit European palates — and wrapped them in packaging inspired by traditional batik patterns. Each jar and teabag tells a story of culture, heritage, and sustainability.

At Tekoteas, we believe in supporting the farmers who tend to these precious tea gardens. The more people embrace Indonesian tea, the stronger their ability to preserve these lands — and resist the pressure to sell them to industries like palm oil farming.

Sustainability is at the heart of our brand. We minimize our environmental impact by avoiding plastic, using glass jars, eco-friendly wrapping, handwoven paper teabags, and recyclable cardboard packaging. Bali’s conscious community supports this mission, and being here has helped us stay aligned with these values.

Tekoteas is more than tea — it’s a connection to the land, to tradition, and to the future we want to create.

My name is Paola, my mother, who was half Indonesian and half Dutch, was born in Java, where tea is an essential part of daily life. Growing up, tea was always present in our home, bringing warmth, tradition, and a sense of togetherness. Inspired by these memories and the rich tea culture of Indonesia, I founded Tekoteas Collection in Bali to share this passion with others, honoring both my heritage and the timeless ritual of tea.

I have always been passionate about tea since childhood, back then tea was presented with a cup full of milk and a drop of tea, but over time i embraced Tea in its purest form and eventually the milk and sugar were left behind.

My journey to Bali took me through the tea gardens of Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and Java, each stop deepening my appreciation for the craft. In 2019, I founded Tekoteas—a family business dedicated to sharing the finest Indonesian teas with a European twist. We’re proud to bring the best of Indonesia to the world.
